Nehru Park is one of the oldest parks in Assam. The remodeling and renovation of Nehru Park was necessitated because of the wear and tear caused to the infrastructure through use over two decades. Earlier known as Church Field, Nehru Park is amongst the oldest parks in Assam. Spread over approximately 18 bighas, it is the most centrally located green space and is a favorite place of recreation and walks for the Guwahatians.
In the year 2020, the Govt. of Assam sanctioned an amount of Rs. 1168.46 Lakhs for “Remodeling of Nehru Park including construction of a restaurant and multi-Utility Building”. Accordingly GMDA started the work.
The whole park has been redesigned while maintaining the natural beauty of the park and without removing a single tree. A water body has been created around the Ashok Stambha, which provides an additional traction point. A new statue of Bharat Ratna late Gopinath Bordoloi has been installed while the statue of Swahid Kushal Konwar has been touched up.
