The Chandra Kumar Baruah Park has been developed by GMDA at a cost of Rs 31 lakh. The money has been sourced from its annual plan funds. It was inaugurated by Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma at Silsako in August, 2006
For children, there are swings, slides, seesaws as well as a haze nest. The park also has an open-air stage, decorative peripheral walls, a pathway, an architectural fountain, decorative lighting arrangements as well as murals and statues designed by artists such as Birendra Sinha, Nuruddin Ahmed and Robin Das. The park fulfilled a long-felt need of the area’s people for an open space. The open-air stage can be used for holding cultural functions as no such facility earlier existed in this area.
There was a park on three kathas of land at that spot but it was in a highly dilapidated condition. GMDA added another katha of land to it and developed the whole area as a proper children’s park. A lot of earth had to be filled in as the area was a low-lying one. The foundation stone was also laid by Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was the local MLA.
